We believe that Jesus Christ is Lord. He is the Son of God, whom God the Father sent to save our fallen human race.
So the Son of God became a human being, to fulfill God's Law for all humanity. He lived a perfect life in our place. He suffered, was crucified, and died to bear the judgment we deserve for our sins. He rose from the dead to overcome our death.
And Jesus, the Son of God, sent the Holy Spirit to bring people to know and trust that God forgives sinners for Jesus' sake. Now, all who cling to Christ in faith can be sure they will inherit eternal life with God.
The Holy Spirit — God Himself — comes to us through Christ’s Word to show us our sin and lead us to trust in Christ. He joins us to Christ in the waters of Baptism, and strengthens us with Christ’s body and blood in Holy Communion. Christ alone can save us, and we receive His saving grace through faith alone.
But faith is never alone. As the Holy Spirit leads us to trust in Christ, He changes our hearts and minds, so that we want to do God's will. He moves us to fight against our sinful desires and strive to live as God commands.
One day, God will raise up all the dead. All who believe in Christ will be ushered into eternal life in a new heaven and earth.
With all the congregations of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, we believe this is the central truth of the Bible. The Bible is truly inspired by the Holy Spirit and is therefore the source and standard for all we believe and teach about God.
