Catechesis is the teaching and learning of the core truths of the Christian faith.
God's Law - where God teaches us His will for how we should live, and shows us the depth of our sin.
God's Gospel - the good news of how God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit work to save us from sin, death, and hell in order to bring us to eternal life.
Prayer - coming to God at His invitation, to call on Him to help us in every trouble, confident He hears us for Christ's sake.
The Means of Grace - the ways that God the Holy Spirit creates and nourishes faith in our hearts.
God's Word, through which He calls us to repentance and faith in Christ.
Baptism, as the Spirit unites us to Christ and His saving work.
Confession and Absolution, as we come to God acknowledging our sins, that we might hear forgiveness more directly, and find comfort and strength.
Holy Communion, in which Jesus Christ gives us His own body and blood for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen us in faith.
As we are immersed in these truths and learn them more deeply, our faith grows and matures.
While catechesis is a lifelong process for every Christian, those who wish to join our congregation in receiving Holy Communion undergo a formal period of catechesis. This is done so that they may come to Communion fully aware of what Christ offers in that meal, confess their faith in Christ and His gifts, and receive Communion to their blessing.
